Shipping in Q3 2006, the new SMC WiFi Phone includes Skype software that allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and enables calling to ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut at a very low cost. SMC Networks is offering full quantity shipments to its partners across Asia with an initial English Language version shipping in Q3, with traditional and simplified Chinese units to follow.

The SMC WiFi Phone for Skype will deliver 3-hours continuous talk-time and 30-hour standby from its internal Li-Ion Battery and can be recharged from any USB enabled socket. With the new SMC WiFi Phone for Skype, users can connect to Skype via any free WiFi connection that does not require browser authentication using the 802.11 standard. The SMC WiFi phone had received a 2006 iF product design award following its showcase debut at CeBIT in March.
"The SMC WiFi Phone for Skype was designed specifically for the Asian market, and will be one of the first Skype Certified WiFi phones to ship to Asian channel partners”, said Mr Jimmy Goh, Vice President of Marketing. SRP will be SGD 369.
