Independent IT services and solutions company Datacraft has been chosen to expand PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) Indonesia’s network to help the carrier boost its SMS (short messaging service) traffic and revenue.
SMS is today one of the most popular ways of communication in Indonesia and Telkomsel being the country’s largest mobile telecommunications operator -with a share of more than 56 per cent of the total Indonesian cellular market with over 35 million users- wanted to take full advantage of market opportunities and revenue potential.
The US .9 million project includes Datacraft services such as project consultancy, expansion design, project management and installation of Cisco ITP (IP transfer point) technology. The network upgrade will allow Telkomsel to manage peak SMS traffic loads by efficiently transporting increasing volumes of Signaling System 7 (SS7) traffic over IP networks.
Datacraft will deploy Cisco routers that act as signaling gateways and provide advanced intelligent SMS routing. SMS traffic will flow through the network using pure HSL SS7 linksets and SS7 over IP (M2PA) linksets thus significantly reducing cost.
Another key benefit of the Datacraft solution includes the high capacity of the new Cisco routers which offer Telekomsel plenty of headroom to accommodate growth in SMS traffic, realizing increased revenues without any additional operational cost.
“ With this upgrade, Telekomsel is in a postion to take full advantage of the potential of SMS in Indonesia, and the revenue that goes along with delivering this popular, value-added service to an increasingly mobile-centric population,” said Ahmad Wahyudi, VAS engineering manager, Telkomsel.
