After many days of apprehension, Vonage has finally seen a silver lining around the murky clouds surrounding the company for the past few weeks. The company has won a stay on the permanent injunction slapped on it earlier by rival Verizon, in a patent infringement violation case.
"The permanent stay enables Vonage to add new customers as we pursue our appeal," Vonage said.
Vonage had to cough up USD 58 million in a copyright spat with Verizon Wireless. Verizon had sued Vonage claiming damages due to alleged infringement on patents. The latter had to appear in court as the lawsuit claims it had breached seven patents covering telephone features and the use of Wi-Fi to place telephone calls.
A jury in Alexandria, Virginia ruled that Vonage infringed two out of seven patents belonging to Verizon, but the company has vowed to appeal against the ruling.
