Indonesia’s PT Telekomunikasi Selular Tbk or Telekomsel reported its first quarterly profits yesterday at an 8 per cent rise attributing the increase to a rise in the number of subscribers.
The largest mobile operator in Indonesia, Telekomsel has more than half of Indonesia’s 70 million mobile phone users as customers.
For the three months ending March 31, Telekomsel saw its net profit climbing to just under 3 trillion rupiah from 2.79 trillion rupiah last year.
Telekomsel’s customer base grew 44 per cent since 2006 although market penetration rate in the nation is still considered low at only 25 per cent.
Neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Thailand have 80 per cent and 60 per cent mobile user penetration respectively.
Although this might be the case at present, analysts predict that the number of users will top 100 million by 2010. |
