RIM Makes Bold Statement with Latest BlackBerry

Research in Motion (RIM) introduced the latest addition to its BlackBerry line of smartphones Monday, unveiling the BlacBerry Bold, a device targeted at both the business professionals and power users.

Described by its makers as a smartphone that radiates “elegance with a dramatic presence”, the Bold has been hailed as the first BlackBerry to support tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks around the world and comes with integrated GPS and Wi-Fi.

“The new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in businessgrade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality, all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design,” said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO, Research In Motion.

Besides its ubiquitous productivity applications--phone, email, messaging, organizer and browser, that have become the bread and butter of any BlackBerry mobile-- the Bold also boasts the following features:

• 128 MB Flash memory plus 1 GB on-board storage memory

• 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability, built-in flash and 5x digital zoom

• BlackBerry Media Sync application that syncs iTunes digital music

• 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi standards

• GPS capability

• Bluetooth 2.0

• Noise cancellation technology that offsets background noise, a powerful speaker phone and support for polyphonic, mp3 and MIDI ring tones.

The BlackBerry Bold smartphone (model number: 9000) is scheduled to be available from wireless carriers around the world beginning mid of this year.
