Shanghai to Deploy Motorola’s TETRA-based Government Radio Network

 

 

Shanghai Telecom has deployed Motorola Inc. to establish an 800MHz IP-based TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) digital trunking Government Radio Network (GRN) to cover the city of Shanghai. The Shanghai Government Radio Network is designed to enable 50,000 users from different government agencies in Shanghai to communicate on a single unified platform.

Balbir Singh, senior director, business development & operations and vice president, Networks & Enterprise, Motorola Asia Pacific., said, "This is our fourth major TETRA award in Shanghai, having already sold similar systems to Shanghai Metro, Shanghai Port and Shanghai Police. This is also one of the largest Motorola TETRA-based city-wide Government Radio Networks in the Asia-Pacific region."

The new system is slated to be fully tested and operational by December 2006 covering the entire city of Shanghai and Yangshan Port, including coverage within buildings.
